Sing a song at Subi – Press release

Something very special will be taking place at the Vocal Ensemble Voiceworks annual “Sing a Song in Subi” Workshop & Performance on Wednesday 17th September.

As well as the usual Workshop where crooners and croakers alike are encouraged to come along, have fun and make some music, this year’s Performance will also feature the Gala Premiere of a newly commissioned choral work written by Perth composer Lochlan Brown. To be performed by Voiceworks and the Citizens of Subiaco, “For a Weeping World” is a beautiful and moving anthem which commemorates our Anzacs and all the serving men and women from Perth.   During the performance of the anthem, the audience will be asked to take part by whispering names and epithets which will be being screened at certain times throughout the piece.

This performance will also be filmed and after editing, made available for viewing through libraries and the national archives.

Please come and lend your voice to this historic performance.  Everyone is welcome to participate.  If you have names of family members or friends who served that you would like to have included in our ‘whispering wall’ please contact us now.

The Workshop will run from 6.00 pm till 7.30pm.  If you’ve ever wanted to join a choir and be part of a performance, well here’s your opportunity!   Participants get to sing with Voiceworks, learn some songs and have some fun.  After a light supper you will get to perform on stage with Voiceworks to a live audience.

The Performance, which will run from 8.00pm till 9.00pm, will feature songs from the Workshop as well as the Premiere Performance of “For a Weeping World”.  It will be followed by a supper for all the participants and the audience.

The workshop will be directed by Voiceworks Director Maggie Wilde West, and conducted under the baton of Musical Director Lochlan Brown, with Accompanist Gavin Nicklette.
