Vocal Ensemble Voiceworks (VEV) is an incorporated not-for-profit community choir which shares a Cultural Partnership with the City of Subiaco. In 2013, VEV, in collaboration with UnitingCare West, established VoiceworksPLUS, a choir which caters for the special needs of people living with disabilities.
Our VoiceworksPLUS choir helps participants develop their musical talents, performance skills and encourages greater integration between the participants and the wider community.
Centre Stage is a unique performance-based program in which VoiceworksPLUS participants are taught acting, singing and movement techniques which help them to build self confidence, develop their communication skills and have fun.
Centre Stage performances are designed to challenge community perceptions of disability. The program also encourages and facilitates greater integration within the wider community. Our VoiceworksPLUS participants include both disabled and non-disabled members.
The Centre Stage program provides parents and friends with the rare opportunity to see their sons and daughters up there shining in the spotlight achieving something and having fun. Families are filled with pride and delight to see performances by sons and daughters that they did not think were possible.
“VoiceworksPLUS gives us the rare opportunity to see our disabled kids up there shining in the spotlight, achieving something and having fun. It makes me feel proud.”
“I just wait for Wednesday evenings – it’s the best!”
“It is a great confidence booster for my daughter. Most importantly it is fun. She really feels she is part of a group with a shared goal.”
“I proudly support this important program which
provides a unique opportunity for people with disabilities
to create and develop their performance skills.”

VoiceworksPLUS were lucky to have a film crew at our 2018 production, The Act-Belong-Commit Pantomime: Much Ado About Something (proudly supported by Lotterywest).
As UnitingCare West is no longer able to support the program, VEV has made a commitment to keep this important program running.
Members of VEV and the local community have volunteered their services and support but VEV also needs to raise money to enable the program to continue.
Funds are needed for venue hire, administration, technical and professional support and for the staging of performances.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible, support our VoiceworksPLUS program here:
